Series Overview
3RT1 AC contactors
Compliance with Standards
DC and AC operation, complying with IEC 60947, EN 60947 (VDE 0660) standards.
Design
3RT1 contactors are suitable for any climatic environment conditions, with a safety touch - protection function, meeting the requirements of Part 100 of DIN VDE 0106.
3RT1 contactors can use screw - wiring or crimped - lug wiring methods.
The basic unit of S00 - sized contactors has auxiliary contacts containing one group of auxiliary contacts. The basic units from S0 to S3 sizes consist of main - circuit contacts.
All basic units of contactors can be expanded with auxiliary contact modules. A contact group with 2 normally open contacts and 2 normally closed contacts (terminal design conforming to EN 50012) can be used for all specifications of S0 - sized contactors; the auxiliary contact module can be disassembled.
In addition, for S00 and S0 sizes, the contact group can be fixedly installed with an auxiliary contact module (2 normally open + 2 normally closed, conforming to EN 50012 standard). These types conform to Swiss special regulations (SUVA) and are additionally marked with red nameplates for distinction externally.
S3 - sized contactors are equipped with removable terminal boxes for main - circuit connections. Therefore, it can be connected to a ring - shaped cable lug or terminal post.
Used for starting IEC 6047/DIN EN 60947 (VDE 0660) motors, contactors with screw terminals can be quickly, concisely, and clearly connected with circuit breakers and/or overload relays using connection components to form a circuit.
Auxiliary contacts can be installed on the contactor body.
3RT1 Special Contactors
3RT10 Intermediate Relays (Interfaces) for Switching Motors
DC operation, complying with IEC 60 947, EN 60 947 (VDE 0660) standards.
Used for switching motors, 3RT10 intermediate relays are specially made for the special requirements of electronic controllers. The intermediate relays have low power consumption, a wide allowable fluctuation range of coil voltage, and integrated surge - suppression protectors for suppressing surges (e.g., 3RT10 1...1HB4 and 3RT101...MB4, OKTO).
Auxiliary switching devices cannot be installed on the 3RT10 1... intermediate relay of S00 size; two single - pole auxiliary switching devices can be installed on the 3RT10 2... intermediate relay of S0 size.
3RT1 contactors can use screw - wiring or crimped - lug wiring methods.

3RT1 Contactors for Railway Use (3RT10 Motor Contactors, 5.5...45kW)
DC Operation
Meeting the requirements of IEC 60947 - 4 - 1, EN 60947 - 4 - 1 (VDE 0660, Part 102), IEC 60077 - 1 and IEC 60077 - 2.
Contactors comply with the finger - safety protection function of EN 50274 (except: S0 to S3 series resistors). They use cage - type terminals and screw terminals. All terminals of S00 - sized contactors are in the form of cage - type terminals. The auxiliary bodies and coil terminals of S0 to S3 sizes are all cage - type terminals.
Ambient Temperature
The allowable ambient temperature for operating these contactors is - 40°C to + 70°C (within the entire coil operating range).
Continuous operation at a temperature > + 55°C will reduce mechanical life, current - carrying capacity of current - conducting paths, and operating frequency.
Application
Suitable for use in devices with large control voltage changes or high ambient temperatures, such as railway applications under harsh climate conditions and applications in rolling mills.
Control and Auxiliary Circuits
The coil of the contactor has an expansion tolerance of 0.7 to 1.25 x US and is equipped with a variable resistor for surge - voltage suppression as a standard accessory. Therefore, compared with standard contactors, the opening time is longer by 2–5 ms.
3RT10...0L A0
The DC solenoid system of the contactor must be modified by adding a series resistor (changed to a holding coil).
S00 - sized contactors provide a pre - wired plug - in module containing a series resistor. The variable resistor is integrated. In addition, a 4 - pole auxiliary contact block (conforming to EN 50005) can be installed.
S0 to S3 Sizes
S0 to S3 - sized contactors are pre - equipped with an auxiliary contact block with 2 normally open + 2 normally closed contacts on the front. A separate series resistor is installed on a 35 mm standard mounting rail from the side near the contactor. It is equipped with connection wires for installing the contactor. Each contactor is affixed with a wiring diagram showing the terminal status. To make the series resistor play a role, a normally closed auxiliary contact is required. The selection and order data indicate the number of additional unallocated auxiliary contacts, and the number of auxiliary contacts of S00 - sized contactors can be expanded.
Installation
At an ambient temperature not exceeding 70°C, S00 - sized contactors and contactor relays are allowed to be installed side by side. Due to the pre - made connection wires, the resistor modules of S0 to S3 - sized contactors must be installed on the left side of the contactor.
3RT10 17 - 2K4., 3RT10 2...3K40
These contactors have an expanded operating voltage range of 0.7 to 1.25 x US; variable resistors are marked on the coils.
There is no need to add a series resistor additionally.
- Specification S00: Cannot install auxiliary contact blocks.
- Specification S0: Can install two single - pole auxiliary contact blocks.
When installing them side by side at a temperature of > 60°C and <= 70°C, a 10 mm spacing needs to be reserved.
3RT10 Contactors with Contactor Control Units, Expansion Tolerance
Control and Auxiliary Circuits
The coil of the contactor has an expansion tolerance of 0.7 to 1.25 x US and is equipped with a variable resistor for surge - voltage suppression as a standard accessory. Therefore, compared with standard contactors, the opening time is longer by 2 ms to 5 ms.
3RT10...X - A0 - 0LA2
These contactors are energized through a series control circuit, ensuring that within an ambient temperature of 70°C, the coil has an operating voltage range of 0.7 to 1.25 x US. They are supplied as a complete independent unit, with a built - in contactor control unit. The integrated variable resistor is used to reduce the opening surge in the coil.
Auxiliary contact blocks can be installed like those of standard contactors.
Installation
At an ambient temperature not exceeding 70°C, S0 to S3 - sized contactors are allowed to be installed side by side.
Dimensions
Due to the built - in contactor control unit, the height of S0 to S3 contactors is increased by 34 mm.
Capacitor Contactors
3RT16 Capacitor Contactors, complying with IEC 60947, EN 60947 (VDE 0660) standards.
These contactors are suitable for use under any weather conditions. They have the finger - safety protection function conforming to EN 50274. 3RT16 capacitor - switching contactors are special models of S00 to S3 SIRIUS contactors. The capacitor is pre - charged through the installed pre - normally open contacts and resistor; then the main contacts will close. This can prevent inrush currents in the power system and only allow the capacitor to be connected when the contacts are de - energized.
Only discharged contactor contacts are allowed to use capacitor - switching contactors for connection.
The auxiliary contact block clamped to the capacitor - switching contactor contains three pre - normally open contacts. There is a standard normally closed contact in the S00 - sized contactor, and an unallocated standard normally open contact in the S0 and S3 - sized contactors. The S00 - sized contactor also contains another unallocated normally open contact in the body.
In addition, a 2 - pole auxiliary contact block (2 normally open, 2 normally closed or 1 normally open + 1 normally closed type) can be installed on the side of 3RT16 47 electrical - switching contactors; the model is 3RH21 19 - 1EA. The auxiliary contacts installed for 3RT16 17 and 3RT16 27 are non - expandable.
