Series Overview

Frame Sizes​

The complete 3VA portfolio comprises two different molded case circuit breaker series with five different rated operational currents (frame sizes). The new 3VA series molded case circuit breakers set new standards in terms of flexibility and diversity of modular accessories. Standard accessories suitable for the various 3VA frame sizes help reduce costs and save time. The 3VA1 molded case circuit breaker is available in 1-pole to 4-pole versions; the 100A breaker is available in 3-pole and 4-pole versions. The 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker is available in 3-pole and 4-pole versions. Depending on the series and frame size, the breakers cover rated operational currents from 16 to 630 A and rated voltages up to 690 V.

The 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker reliably meets all requirements for line protection, generator protection, motor protection, and motor starter protection. This series is designed for applications with higher demands:

​Compact Dimensions with Extended Functionality​

In addition to its extended performance, the 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker's compact design is perfectly realized not only in the fixed-mounted version but also in the plug-in and withdrawable versions. A cover plate dimension of 70 mm for panel cutouts and the full selection of breaking capacities from ​​55 kA to 150 kA at 415 V AC​​ provide the necessary planning flexibility. Despite the compact construction of the circuit breaker, the following advantages remain:

​Selective Contact System​

Due to its contact system, the 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker is designed for fast selective tripping performance. The selective contact system ensures the following functions:

● Selective coordination between molded case circuit breakers of different sizes
● Selective coordination with downstream protective devices such as low-voltage fuses

​Electronic Trip Units (ETUs)​

The 3VA2 current transformers include an internally supplied iron-core transformer and a Rogowski coil for precise current measurement. Each transformer is optimized for its specific task. Due to the high accuracy of current measurement, the 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker is suitable for power/energy measurement. Furthermore, ground fault current monitoring is precisely adjustable. The electronic trip units (ETUs) provide the following protection functions:

● Overload protection L (L = Long delay)
● Short-time-delayed short-circuit protection S (S = Short-time delay) for time-graded selectivity in the event of a short circuit
● Instantaneous short-circuit protection I (I = Instantaneous)
● Overload and short-circuit protection for the N-pole (N = Neutral)
● Residual current protection (G = Ground fault)
