Series Overview
Series Overview
- The standard and high - performance processors of the Modicon M340 automation platform control the entire PLC single rack or multi - rack station. Any slot in it can be equipped with:
- Discrete I/O modules
- Analog I/O modules
- Special - purpose modules (counters, motion controllers, Ethernet Modbus/TCP communication)
- Five processors have different memory capacities, processing speeds, I/O counts, and communication port types.
- In addition, they can provide at most (the quantity is not cumulative and depends on the specific model):
- 512 to 1024 discrete I/Os
- 128 to 256 analog I/Os
- 20 to 36 special channels (counters, motion controllers, and serial links)
- 0 to 3 Ethernet Modbus/TCP networks (with or without integrated ports, at most 2 network modules)
- The Modicon M340 processor can include (the specific content depends on the model):
- A 10BASE - T/100BASE - TX Ethernet Modbus/TCP port
- A CANopen machine and installation bus
- A Modbus serial link
- A USB type B port (for a programmer or a human - machine interface Magelis XBT GT/GK/GTW)
- Each processor comes with a memory card, which has the following functions:
- Backup application programs (programs, symbols, and constants)
- Start a standard Web server for the transparent ready B10 class through the integrated Ethernet port (depends on the specific model)
- This memory card can be replaced with another type of memory card (needs to be ordered separately), which can support:
- Backup application programs and start a standard Web server (same as others)
- 8 or 128 Mb of space (depends on the option card), providing a storage area for additional data (directories and sub - directories) organized within the file system
- The BMX CPS●●●0 power supply module supplies power to each BMX XBP●●●0 rack and the modules installed on it:
- There are two types of power supply modules:
- Power supply modules for AC power supplies
- Power supply modules for DC power supplies
- There are two types of power supply modules:
- The discrete I/O modules in Modicon M340 products are standard single - slot modules, equipped with one of the following connectors:
- Connectors for screw - type or spring - type 20 - pin detachable terminals
- One or two 40 - pin connectors
- Multiple types of discrete input and output modules are available for selection:
- Functions: AC or DC I/O, positive or negative logic;
- Module channel counts: Each module has 8, 16, 32, or 64 channels.
- The input end receives sensor signals and performs the following functions:
- Acquisition;
- Adaptation;
- Electrical isolation;
- Filtering;
- Signal protection against interference signals.
- The output end records commands issued by the processor and controls the executive devices through logic and amplifier circuits.
- Analog I/O module products include:
- Four types of isolated/non - isolated analog input modules:
- 4 and 8 analog high - speed channels (16 - bit), voltage or current; BMX AMI 0410/0810/0800.
- 4 and 8 analog channels (15 - bit + sign), for thermocouple, platinum, nickel, or copper temperature probes; BMX ART 0414/0814.
- An analog output module with 2, 4, and 8 voltage/current channels; BMX AMO 0210/0410/0802
- A hybrid module (12 - bit) with 4 analog input channels and 2 analog output non - isolated voltage or current channels; BMXAMM0600.
- Except for the BMX ART 0414/0814 analog input modules with 40 - pin connectors for thermocouple/temperature probes, the analog I/O modules have 20/28 - pin detachable terminal block connectors. In the BMX XBP●●● rack, all analog modules occupy a single slot. These modules can be installed in any other slots of the rack except the two head slots (PS and 00). These two slots are reserved for the power supply module BMX CPS●●● in the BMX CPS●●● rack and the BMX P34●●●0 processor module.
- The analog power supply is powered by the backplane bus (3.3 V and 24 V). Analog I/O modules can be hot - swapped.
- In the Modicon M340 single - rack configuration, the maximum number of analog channels is limited by the number of available slots in the rack (up to 11 slots).
- Four types of isolated/non - isolated analog input modules:
| Counter Module | Number of Channels | Maximum Frequency | Integrated Functions | Number of Physical Inputs | Number of Physical Outputs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BMX EHC 0200 | 2 | 60 kHz | Up - counting
Down - counting

- The BMX EHC 0200 and BMX EHC 0800 counter modules on the Modicon M340 automation platform are used to count pulses generated by sensors or process signals from incremental encoders.
- The differences between these two modules lie in the number of counter channels, maximum input frequency, functions, and auxiliary input and output interfaces:
- The sensors used on each channel can be:
- 2 - wire 24 V proximity sensors
- 3 - wire 24 V proximity sensors
- Incremental encoders with 10/30 V output signals and push - pull outputs
- The BMX EHC 0200 / 0800 counter modules can be used to meet the following application requirements:
- Use the rate mode function to realize empty state alarm of the unwinding machine
- Use the cycle meter to classify small parts
- Use dynamic threshold setting for a single electronic cam
- Use the cycle meter for speed control
- These standard - format modules can be installed in any available slot of the Modicon M340 PLC and can be removed while powered on.
- In the configuration of the Modicon M340 PLC, the BMX EHC 0200/0800 counter modules should be added to the number of special - purpose modules (communication).
- The setting of function parameters is realized through the Unity Pro software for configuration.
- The BMX MSP 0200 motion control pulse output (PTO) module on the Modicon M340 automation platform is used to control third - party servo drives that can receive open - loop signals.
- By using the USIC converter VW3M31023 to make the 24 VDC control signal comply with the RS 422 standard, BMXMSP0200 can be compatible with Lexium 05 servo drives.
- The BMXMSP0200 motion control PTO module has 2 independent PTO channels. Like other special - purpose modules, this module can be installed in any available slot on the rack (labels 01 to 11). The number of modules is limited by the maximum number of special - purpose channels allowed by the CPU:
- Standard BMX P341000: Maximum 20 special - purpose channels (1)
- High - performance BMX P34 20●●: Maximum 36 special - purpose channels (1)
- (1) Special - purpose channels: Counter BMX EHC0●●0, motion control BMXMSP0200, and communication BMXNOE01●0.
-
With its integrated Ethernet port (10 - class) and BMXNOE 0100/0110 network modules (30 - class), the BMX P342020/20302 processor provides transparent ready functions on a single Ethernet Modbus/TCP network.
-
In addition to the general Ethernet services (HTTP, BOOTP/DHCP, FTP, etc.), the transparent ready communication services for automation systems also include:
- Modbus/TCP messages for 10 - class or 30 - class devices
- I/O scanning services for 30 - class devices
- FDR (Faulty Device Replacement) for 10 - class or 30 - class devices
- SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) network management for 10 - class or 30 - class devices
- Global data for 30 - class devices
- Alarm management for 10 - class or 30 - class devices
- NTP time synchronization (Network Time Protocol) for 30 - class devices
- E - mail notification function realized through the SMTP server with Unity function blocks
- Note: The Ethernet Modbus/TCP communication services depend on the type of processor or Ethernet module. For detailed content, please refer to the characteristics of the BMX P342020/20302 or BMXNOE 0100/0110 Ethernet modules.
