Series Overview
- A time relay is a component in industrial automation systems for time management that can close or open contacts before, during, or after a set timing cycle.
Time relays mainly have 2 installation types:
- DIN rail - mounted time relays (RE7, RE9, RE17, RE22...): Can be directly installed on a DIN rail through the slot at the back of the relay housing.
- Base - mounted time relays (REX1): Installed with a plug - in base.
- Panel - mounted time relays (RE48): Designed to be installed on the front of the panel for user convenience in setting.
These relays have 1, 2, or 4 outputs. The 2nd output can be a delayed output or an instantaneous output.
If the power supply is cut off during the timing period, the relay will return to the initial position.

The following definitions help you understand the working principles of these relays:
- Relay output: This is the most common output type. When the relay is powered on, the armature is attracted by the coil to trigger the contacts, thereby changing the contact state. When the relay loses power, the armature and contacts return to their original positions.
- Solid - state output: These outputs are fully electronic and have no mechanical moving parts; thus, they can have a longer service life.
- Breaking capacity: The current value that the contacts can break under specified conditions.
- Mechanical life: The number of mechanical operation cycles of the contacts.
- Minimum switching capacity (or minimum electrical capacity): The minimum current required to allow the relay contacts to switch.
- GI (Gate) output: The gate output allows interrupting the ongoing timing without the need for resetting.
