The S7-1200 controller is flexible and powerful, enabling control of a wide range of equipment to meet your automation needs. The S7-1200 features a compact design, flexible configuration, and a powerful instruction set. The combination of these characteristics makes it an ideal solution for controlling various applications.
The CPU integrates a microprocessor, integrated power supply, input and output circuits, built-in PROFINET, high-speed motion control I/O, and basic analog input into a compact housing to form a powerful controller. Once you download the user program, the CPU will contain the logic required by the equipment in the monitoring application. The CPU monitors inputs based on the user program logic and modifies outputs. The user program can include Boolean logic, counting, timing, complex mathematical operations, and communication with other intelligent devices.
The CPU provides a PROFINET port for communication via the PROFINET network. It can also communicate over PROFIBUS, GPRS, RS485, or RS232 networks by adding modules.
Safety Functions
- Each CPU offers password protection functionality, allowing users to dynamically configure access rights to CPU functions through this feature.
- "Proprietary Technology Protection" can be used to hide code within blocks.
- Copy protection can be used to bind the program to a specific memory card or CPU.
Communication Modules
- The SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU can add up to three communication modules, supporting PROFIBUS master-slave communication. The RS485 and RS232 communication modules provide point-to-point serial communication connections. The configuration and programming of this communication use extended instructions or library functions, USS drive protocols, and Modbus RTU master and slave protocols, all included in the SIMATIC STEP 7 Basic engineering configuration system.
Simple Remote Control Applications
- The new communication processor CP1242-7 can simultaneously monitor and control distributed S7-1200 units via a simple HUB (hub), mobile phone network, or Internet.
Integrated PROFINET Port
- The integrated PROFINET port is used for programming, HMI communication, and communication between PLCs. Additionally, it supports communication with third-party devices via an open Ethernet protocol. This port has an RJ45 connector with an auto-cross-over function, providing a data transmission rate of 10/100 Mbit/s, and supports the following protocols: TCP/IP native, ISO-on-TCP, and S7 communication.
Integrated Technology
- High-speed input: The SIMATIC S7-1200 controller is equipped with up to 6 high-speed counters. Among them, 3 inputs are 100 kHz and 3 inputs are 30 kHz, used for counting and measurement.
- High-speed output: The SIMATIC S7-1200 controller integrates four 100 kHz high-speed pulse outputs for speed and position control of stepping motors or servo drives. (Using PLCopen motion control instructions) These four outputs can output pulse width modulation signals to control motor speed, valve position, or the duty cycle of heating elements.
Memory
- Provides a shared working memory of up to 100 KB for user instructions and data. It also provides an integrated load memory of up to 4 MB and 10 KB of power-off retention memory.
Scalable and Flexible Design
- Signal board: A signal board can be connected to all CPUs, allowing you to customize the CPU by adding digital or analog input/output channels to the controller without changing its physical form. The modular design of the SIMATIC S7-1200 controller enables you to precisely design the controller system according to actual application requirements.
- Signal modules: Up to 8 signal modules can be connected to the CPU with the strongest expansion capability to support more digital and analog input/output signal connections.
